School. 
You have to know your teacher. Understand their philosophies and points of view in the world. You have to enter their reality and then you'll be able to manipulate them. Once you understand their tastes and the way they think and see everything, you'll begin to make art according to what pleasures them the most. O3O

Just. Do whatever you like the most or feel like doing. Without ignoring the theme/method/rules imposed beforehand.
If their a real teacher, they'll see the feelings you put into your art and praise them. |D;
